Find out how to get to the beach from Edinburgh's City centre or straight from the Airport.

Portobello Beach & Promenade are located on the East side of Edinburgh. The capitol can be easily reached from anywhere in the UK and our airport operates direct flights from New York, Paris, Toronto, Rome, Abu Dhabi, Istanbul, Barcelona and many other cities.

Edinburgh’s Rail station operates direct connections from many places in the UK, including an overnight ‘sleeper’ service from London.

By Car

The fastest way to get to the Portobello Beach is from the end of A1. From there continue via A199 and turn right to Portobello High Street. After about 100 yards turn left to Westbank St and right to Westbank St, that’s where accessible parking is located (see map).

By Air

You can catch a direct flight to Edinburgh from New York, Paris, Toronto, Rome, Abu Dhabi, Istanbul, Barcelona and many other cities. Edinburgh Airport is located 30 minutes drive from Portobello, by bus/tram it will take you around 1 hour to get to the beach. See getting around page for details.

By Train

The Brunstane station is about 15 minutes walk from the beach (1 km). You can also catch a train to Waverley station located in Edinburgh’s’ city centre and then take a taxi or (located short walk from the station) local bus no.26 to get to the beach within 30min.

By Bus

You can reach the Edinburgh’s City centre from all around the UK by coach. From Edinburgh’s Bus Station it’s just a short walk to catch a local bus number 26 which runs 24/7 which will take you to the beach, the trips takes around 30 minutes.
