Tram + Bus

Length: 1-2 hours depending on time of travel.
Available: Day & Night, 7 days a week.
Price: £9 for the Network DAYTicket (Airport Zone). This ticket can be used on all Lothian Trams Buses until 4:30am the next day. Family tickets available for up 2 adults and 3 children. Kids under 5 years old go free.

Buy your tickets as you enter the tram platform, you can also get them online or use the app.

Details: Use tram from the Airport (1) and go right to the last stop – York Place (2). Then change to bus 26 that stops in many places along Portobello Beach (3).

Go upstairs for the best views of the city, all 26 buses are double-deckers. You can ask the driver to inform you when you reach Portobello Beach.

Don’t worry if you miss the first bus stop after reaching Portobello, there’s 9 bus stops along The Beach & Promenade. Return trip is easy, just cross the street and take any bus no.26, they all go via Princess Street.

Tram + Train

Length: Around 1 hour.
Available: 7am – 9pm, 7 days a week.
Price: Around £6 per person, one way. Kids under 5 years old go free. There’s few ways to obtain the tram tickets, see Edinburgh Trams website for details and prices. Train tickets can be bought online, see more info below the map.

Description: Take the tram from the airport to Edinburgh Gateway. Next catch a train from Edinburgh Gateway to Waverley Station in the city centre, here catch a train to Brunstane Station.

Note, you will arrive at Brunstane Station which is 15 min away from Portobello on foot (mostly down the hill).

This trip is NOT suitable for wheelchairs as there’s no ramp for train access available at Brunstane.

Taxi

The trip should take about 30 minutes and at a cost of about £30. The driver is most likely to take the city bypass to reach Portobello quickly avoiding the city centre.

From Edinburgh City

Bus

Length: around 30 minutes from Edinburgh Waverley railway station (near Princess Street).
Available: Day & Night, 7 days a week.
Price: £1.70 Adult, £0.80 Child. Day tickets are a good choice and family tickets are also available for up 2 adults and 3 children. Kids under 5 years old go free.

If buying tickets from the driver make sure to have exact amount of money as the drivers do not give back any change.

Details: When you leave the Waverley station (1) head over towards the tall and easily recognisable Scott Monument.

The bus stop (2) is on the street across the Scott Monument.

If you’re travelling after midnight use Night Bus N26 stopping opposite the Scott Monument on Printess Street, “stop PK”.
